my proposed site is the red hook container terminal. for the hybridized program/intervention, i am considering a banquet hall.

when i was first brainstorming, i was thinking about banks, financial firms, even the stock exchange. but i like the threshold of the port, and the idea of the pulling in and out of the cargo ships

talk more about your reasoning for doing so.
what are the links to the earlier work?
the joke?
the play?
the film?
the philosophy?

translating from the play - the courtships and marriages are superficial, the girls are objectified as the men compete. the terms "winning" "achieving" are even explicitly used as if they are prizes. hence the jump to ideas of market, banking, trade. scale shift of economic competition / suitors fighting over the field of the bed ...

the threshold of the port i think is more successful than the other ideas of economic institutions, in that it involves hardscape/ softscape...going back to the joke and philosophy and pulling in and out to dock the ships might have some sexual allusions

i'm not certain about the second program...i wanted the contrast of materialism vs. something sincere and intimate, as the relationships are critiqued in the play - i thought a wedding chapel might be too literal and i didn't want to bring in religion, hence the banquet hall
