I think what you have built thus far is successful, but in moving forward you should think about:
power relationships, between priest and drunk. transgression. vulnerability. what it means that the priest is a voyer? is he the unwanted 'big brother' who is looking down from his position of power with disdain?
think about safety of the church vs. subversive nature of the drunk
Also, the seduction involved in the sequence of confession, the veil between the two people, the density of the screen, vulnerability, transgression, cleansing, ablution

Consider water as a shared association between church / bathroom: holy water / toilet water, sacred / profane, spiritual cleansing / physical cleansing

I agree with Kimberly and Irene: i think there needs to be more of an interaction in your space: with your space, and with the other person as well. Going to the bathroom, as is confession is a very interactive event... it is an exchange. The fact that there is a free exchange: confession you think about what you tell the preist etc. bathroom you are silent while going, etc. but here its inhibitionless. conversely both spaces have solitude- because essentially the person is alone in the immediate space- which is quite isolationist-these places to tell secrets and places too poo. which brings me to the idea of a door, or partial obstruction from the actual viewer. I think you should consider what the 3rd person, the reader or the viewer sees/knows, because that makes a big difference in how your space will be read.

do you think there is a way to incorporate the sliding walls, as marc suggested 2 classes ago? i liked that idea in terms of breking the walls of the confession box and bluring its notion, and possibly adding another layer of info to the changes happening to the physical division btw the 2 people...
or is too much?

maybe you only need to build one of the spaces...and it switches
(slips, slides) between the 2 dialogues...

maybe the drunk and the priest are the same person...

i was thinking of doing that actually...just one cell and how it switches back and forth from holy to sinful..i thought it might convery that sigularity of one space vs. the duality of that same space.
about them being the same person, the drunk represents the fantasies of a priest with restricted life...
schizophrenia....
